One can easily get confused over the quality and value of hotel star ratings. While booking hotels from various online websites you might see the same property listed as five stars, four stars, three stars etc. But the question that remains in our minds is what does these hotel star ratings even mean in the hotel and hospitality industry if they are not consistent from website to website?
There seems to be no one measurement to rate a hotel’s value, amenities, and overall potential for customer satisfaction. Hotel ratings are actually arbitrary and cannot be trusted. One hotel could produce varying star ratings across multiple travel sites.
To understand the concept of ratings, let us see simplified definitions from each of the major travel sites.

You must decide what you want out of your trip before booking your hotel and hospitality services. Then you can use the hotel star ratings system to choose the best hotel for your excursion, as well as provide a good benchmark for pricing.

A lot of guests just want to spend money on meals, tourist attractions, and nightlife, and use the hotel only as a place to sleep. As such, a mid-range hotel and hospitality services will be suitable for you. Many others use hotel as a part of their vacation experience, and focus more on associated features like pool, room-service, or on-site spa. If you’re going for a high-class hotel, make sure you utilize all its services- otherwise you’ll be paying for nothing more than higher star rating.

A hotel located within the city (regardless of star rating) may be your best option in case you are planning on staying downtown. A hotel and hospitality service may have higher star rating simply because of a good location. Your per-day rate will be much cheaper if you are planning to stay long term (at least 30 days). Do your through research before booking hotels simply based on star ratings.

After selecting few properties that clearly meets your needs, call them directly to see if any current sales or package deals are available during the dates you want to visit. May be you can take advantage of a cheaper rate, or extra perks to make your stay more memorable.
